Day's Summary: Ave, Caesar, morituri te salutant!

Okay, let's not get too dramatic. Today you're not going to die, you're going to be reborn! The feeling of this stage is like that of gladiators entering the Colosseum for the main event. These are the last 20 kilometers, and they fly by. The adrenaline, the emotion, and the eagerness to arrive will carry you. The route passes through the last forests, by the airport, up to Monte do Gozo for the first glimpse of the Cathedral, and finally, delves into the stone streets of Santiago until the explosion of joy in the Plaza del Obradoiro.

Key Points of the Triumphant Entry

Today there are no "points of interest," there are "points of emotion." Every step brings you closer. Enjoy them.

  • Monte do Gozo: "The Mount of Joy." Its name says it all. From here, you will see the towers of the Cathedral in the distance for the first time. This is the moment for the first tear (of many ).
  • Entering the City: You'll leave the modern neighborhoods behind and dive into the historic center through the Porta do Camiño. The streets narrow, the ground is stone, and the atmosphere changes completely.
  • Plaza de Cervantes: The antechamber. From here, you can already smell the incense (just kidding, but almost). You are just a few meters away.
  • The Arco de Palacio: You will pass under this arch and... there it will be. The immensity of the Plaza del Obradoiro and the facade of the Cathedral. There are no words to describe that moment. Just live it.

Final Tips: You Made It! Now What?

The Most Important Tip: The Compostela and the Burger

Congratulations, pilgrim! Now for the last two unofficial stamps: the Compostela and your reward at our bar. For the Compostela, go to the Pilgrim's Office (near the Cathedral). There are usually very long queues. When I pass by in the summer, seeing so many people, I always wonder if they're giving away free sandwiches or something, haha! From what we've been told, you can now register upon arrival, they give you a ticket with a QR code, and they notify you on your phone when it's your turn. That gives you plenty of time to stroll through the Franco area, visit the Cathedral, or... well, you know!

And that's where we come in!

If this guide has been of any help to you, you have to come and see us! We would love for you to order a good burger and tell us about your experience. And if the guide was useless... come by anyway! That way you can help us pay the mortgage, because times are tough. You have no excuse!

Other Tips for Your First Hours in Santiago:

  • Strategic Accommodation: If you're heading straight to the Cathedral and then to rest, you should know that right next to our place is the Albergue de Peregrinos Quiroga Palacios. It couldn't be more convenient!
  • The Pilgrim's Mass: It is held every day at 12:00 PM. It's a very moving moment, even if you're not a believer. Try to be on time.
  • Hug the Apostle and visit the crypt: These are the classic rituals inside the Cathedral. You have to do them.
  • Get lost in the old town: Once you've dropped off your backpack, just wander aimlessly through the "rúas" (streets). It's the best way to discover the magic of Santiago.
